    Hello,
It was wonderful to find your site after searching for names for a site I wanted to develop with a very similar purpose and plan! What a glorious event! I have recently become aware of the need for community grassroots involvement for our local communities, and easily saw the web as a tool to connect “need” to “supply”. I first envisioned a small scale version for the immediate “backyard community” and easily broadening out to include states needs etc…

    Your work is wonderful!!!

    An idea:
There might be a directory of “projects” as you term them which could be broken down by interest. Women, Children, Environmental, Political Activism, Animals, etc…

Is this something within your scope?

In the application I envisioned, I saw the “local” information particularly useful for those people who are not comfortable sending money, but may have an extra blanket or towel to pass along to a shelter in much need. The organization in need might post a wish list, or as you have pointed out… there may be an “advocate” who is the point person to contact for questions concerning the fulfillment of a particular project.

I think this is a fantastic project and Divinely guided!! I am a graphic designer and worked for 10 years at IBM as a Usability consultant… I would be happy to assist in anyway I can. Please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please let me know when I can post a number of projects… A women’s shelter called Safe Haven, and a Local Women’s Shelter (St Vincents dePaul). Also, if possible (I am not sure if this falls into the scope of your mission) but I would like to post links to organizations within the USA that advocate to make it a “betterplace” Like Moveon, Congress.org, Amnesty International, Environmental groups, etc… a “one stop” for people to find the information they need to change policy

    Hi Rosemary,
we are very sorry only to respond this late – the blog administrator wasn’t automatically informed about the comment and it somehow got lost! Thanks so much for your comment, encouragement and ideas.

We went online for the general public last Friday – so it would be great if you would visit betterplace again, register and get the projects you mentioned to present themselves on betterplace. We are very keen to have good projects and hope that they will use betterplace to gather more support and professionalize their fund raising.

Also, please feel free to spread the word about us.
When you come and visit betterplace you will see that we have categories such as the ones you mentioned and we also very strongly encourage “backyard community” projects (and as we don’t have any at the moment, we’d love to get one or 2, or 3 … on the platform).

    Yours Joana

    Hi Joana,

I just thought I’d let you know that I referred to your article ‘Corporate Volunteering’ on betterplace.org in my most recent blog. I was going to send you an email, but I couldn’t find one anywhere on the site.

I am always curious to see where what I write ends up in the blogging world, and I thought the same may be true for you.

    Here’s the link; http://realizedworth.blogspot.com/2008/11/start-corporate-volunteering-program.html
